Faculty HERC Awards for Undergraduate Students

2026-2027 Travel Awards:

Thanks to the support of the Idaho Higher Education Research Council (HERC), Travel awards for students to present research posters or papers at national conferences are available for the year 2026-2027. Students who receive HERC Awards are not eligible for separate travel funding. Applications will be open for acceptance starting September 1.
Award recipients are encouraged to attend the Idaho Conference on Undergraduate Research, which is a free conference open to all students, held annually in July at Boise State University.
For faculty, proposals must be submitted using the Undergraduate Research Fund Faculty Application. Submit proposals as a single PDF document to Sonia Martinez. The submission deadline is September 8th, 2026. Awards will be announced in early October, and funds must be spent by June 1, 2027, with no extensions possible. If you have any questions, please get in touch with Sonia Martinez.

Congratulations to the undergraduate research awardees from the Higher Education Research Council (HERC):
How to apply for a HERC Research Award:

If awarded funds, the application announcement will be released to faculty in February for early awards in July, so that students can begin their research experience at the start of the academic year.

To be eligible for a Higher Education Research Council (HERC) Undergraduate Student Award, a student should be at least in their sophomore year and demonstrate a clear interest in and commitment to the proposed area of research. Students must identify a faculty research mentor who will provide guidance and supervision throughout the research experience. The student must also be enrolled for at least one full semester during the award year. Faculty mentors submit applications on behalf of the student, reflecting the award's collaborative, mentored nature. HERC awards support the undergraduate research experience, including compensation for research hours, research-related travel to a conference, and necessary supplies and materials.
