Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)

 

 

ISU faculty, staff, and students operate unmanned aircraft systems (also known as drones) for a variety of reasons including teaching, research, training, outreach, marketing, and other institutional purposes. 

All UAS operations performed in connection with ISU activities must be conducted in a manner that minimizes risk and complies with applicable regulations. 

Drone Flying Over a Field

  • Comply with federal, state, and local UAS regulations.
  • Operate the UAS in accordance with ISU Policy (ISUPP 9030 - Unmanned Aircraft).
  • Register the UAS with ISU Risk Management.
  • Obtain flight authorization from ISU Public Safety two weeks in advance of the flight.
