Do students need to buy a membership to use the Student Recreation Center?
No. Full-time and part-time consolidated-fee paying students fund the Student Recreation Center directly through their student activity fees. However, dual-enrolled students and students who do not pay student activity fees are required to buy memberships or day passes.
What does a Student Recreation Center membership include?
Membership includes use of the swimming pool, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, weight and cardio exercise facilities, racquetball courts, gymnasium spaces, multipurpose and dance room spaces, climbing wall, spinning classes, and indoor jogging track.
May students use the Student Recreation Center if they are not taking classes?
Yes. If a student is between semesters, for a $60 gap fee, a student may have their Bengal ID activated if they were enrolled the prior semester and are registered for the next semester.
Do you offer guest passes?
Campus Recreation does not offer guest passes. Patrons entering the facility must be members or purchase a day pass.
May I purchase a pass for my spouse?
Spouses of currently enrolled students may purchase a Spouse Bengal ID through Campus Connection in the SUB. This student-spouse ID must be renewed every semester. A student spouse Bengal ID allows the spouse to purchase a semester gym pass at a discounted rate.
May I purchase a pass for my dependents?
Yes. Students can purchase memberships for their dependents, aged 16-19.
What payment options are available to purchase a membership for a dependent?
Memberships may be paid for with cash, check, Visa, or MasterCard. Campus Rec is unable to put purchases on an ISU flex cash account or similar. For more information, call the Student Recreation Center at (208) 282-4854 or visit the business office of the Student Recreation Center Front Desk.
Are family passes available?
We do not offer family passes.
May I bring my children?
Members may bring their tax-dependent children up to age 19 for free during family hours. Outside of family hours, membership or day passes are required--except for children under age two are permitted into the Rec Center at no charge, Babies must remain in their carrier or seat for the duration of the visit, except for feeding or changing. An adult must actively supervise their baby from within arm’s reach at all times. The baby cannot be left unattended under any circumstance. Even when in carriers, babies are not permitted in the cardio, free weights, or adjacent areas. Children under age 8 are not permitted in the climbing area.
When are free family hours?
- Friday, Saturday, Sunday: all open hours year round
- Summer: all open hours
- University breaks & holidays: all open hours
- The pool offers family hours during Combo Swim.
Who may I bring during family hours?
You may bring your tax-dependent children, up to age 19 for free during family hours. All other family members (spouses, grandparents, etc.) must have a membership or pay the daily fee. If you have special or non-traditional family circumstances, contact the Student Recreation Center at (208) 282-4854.
Why are children younger than 16 not allowed to take part in group exercise classes or use the strength/conditioning areas?
Group exercise classes and strength/conditioning areas are age-restricted because they are considered high-risk areas.
What if I lose my Bengal/membership card?
Bengal IDs are available at Bengal Card Services located at the Campus Connection in the SUB. Replacement Rec R-card membership cards for dependents are available for $15 at the Front Desk of the Student Recreation Center.
Do I need to bring my Bengal/membership card to use the Student Recreation Center?
You do need your Bengal ID card to check out equipment, but as long as you have your photo associated with your Bengal ID account, you can enter your ID into the pin pad at the gym entrance.
Do students need a membership?
No, if paying activity fees. Reduced/waived fee students must purchase one.
Do faculty/staff need a membership?
Yes.
Do I need ISU affiliation?
No. Community members (18+) may join.
What does a membership include?
Pool, weight & cardio areas, courts, climbing wall, spin studio, track, and multipurpose spaces.
Can spouses/dependents join?
Yes. Spouses may join even without a primary member. Dependents must be 16-19.
Are family passes available?
No.
What if I lose my card?
Replacement Rec Center card: $15. Bengal ID replacement: Campus Connection.

Do I need a membership for the pool?
Yes.
Do faculty/staff taking classes get access?
No. Reduced tuition ($5/credit) students do not pay activity fees. They may purchase a membership at the student semester rate.
Are lockers available?
Yes, Lockers are available for rent. Visit the Student Recreation Center Front Desk to rent a locker. You may also bring your own lock and use a daily locker for free.
What equipment can be checked out?
Members can check out basketballs, volleyballs, racquetball equipment, tennis equipment, table tennis equipment, and climbing equipment at the front desk of the Student Recreation Center. There is no fee to check out equipment, but you will need to leave an ID card as collateral.
Where should I park when using the Student Recreation Center?
Permit parking is available in the lots surrounding the Student Recreation Center and Reed Gym For those without ISU parking permits, parking is free on weekdays after 4:00pm and all day on Saturday and Sundays. Meters are located on the north and south sides of the Center. Contact the ISU Parking Office for additional parking details. isu.edu/parking
What's the difference between Reed Gym and the Student Recreation Center?
Reed Gym and the Student Recreation Center are two different facilities located next to each other. Reed Gym is a state-funded facility (Building #45). The construction of the Student Recreation Center (Building #44) was funded through student fees and will be maintained through a combination of student fees and membership fees.
What’s the difference between Lap and Combo Swim?
Lap Swim is for continuous swimming. If space allows, aquatic fitness activities such as aqua-jogging are permitted in a lane during lap swim. Combo Swim splits the pool in half: 3 lanes are available for continuous swimming and the other half is open recreation.
Do minors need supervision?
Yes. Minor under age 18 may not purchase a day pass to swim without a supervising adult. Ages 16–17 may swim alone only if they have a membership purchased as a dual-enrolled student or dependent of an ISU affiliate.
What is the water temperature?
As a multi-use facility, we strive to maintain a pool temperature of 84–85°F.
Where do I buy passes or memberships?
Stop by the Student Rec Center front desk (cash, card, Apple/Google Pay accepted).

Who can reserve tennis courts?
Only ISU students with a valid Bengal ID and members with active Rec Cards may make advanced reservations. Day fee and punch pass users cannot reserve in advance.
How far in advance can I reserve a court?
Students may reserve up to 3 days in advance. Members may reserve up to 2 days in advance.
How long can I reserve a court for?
Court reservations are limited to 2 hours per day.
Can I see the schedule before the reservation window opens?
Yes. You can view the court schedule up to 5 days in advance to check for events, but you cannot book until your reservation window opens.
How do cancellations work?
Reservations should be canceled at least 8 hours before play. Frequent late cancellations may result in follow-up or penalties.
What if I arrive late to my reservation?
If you are more than 10 minutes late, your court may be reassigned. The Front Desk’s computer clock determines the time.
What happens if I no-show for a reservation?
Repeated no-shows may result in cancellation fees.
Can I drop in without a reservation?
Yes, but drop-in players risk losing the court to anyone who makes an official reservation after arrival.
What equipment rules apply on the courts?
- Only non-marking athletic shoes are allowed.
- A maximum of 6 balls per court (except Court #1 with nets closed).
- Tennis ball machines are only permitted for PE classes and athletic practices.
- Water is allowed in resealable containers only.
Where is the tennis center?
The Indoor Tennis Center is located through Idaho State University’s Reed Gym in the Student Recreation Center at 1291 Martin Luther King Jr Way in Pocatello.
Can I play prior to the lesson and/or stay to play after the lesson?
Court reservations supersede drop-in play. If a court is open, you may continue to play. Members can make court reservations. Non-members can use court space on a drop in basis only.
Where should I park?
ISU enforces parking restrictions year round with ticketing enforced from 7:30 AM until 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. Handicapped spaces require an ISU handicapped-parking permit. You can purchase a parking permit for spaces close to Reed Gym, or use the parking pay station on the south side of Reed during ticketing hours. Can I observe my child’s lesson? Can a parent leave once lessons have started?
Communicate with your instructor about whether you can watch the lesson and where to sit. You may drop your child off at lessons if the instructor is comfortable with that arrangement, and you arrive on time to pick up your child. Employees are unable to watch your child after the lesson has concluded.
How do I become a Student Rec Center Gym member? What are the rates?
All gym memberships are sold at the Front Desk of the Student Rec Center. This includes punch passes, setting up payroll deduct, or new memberships. Any non-student gym membership is available to purchase month-by-month (one month minimum) with no contract. Memberships can be purchased to start any day of the month.
Can I use my own lock on my rented locker?
Personal locks are permitted on day use lockers only. For annual and semester rentals, Recreation and Wellness provides the combination to the lock already on a locker. Use of a personal lock permitted as a formal disability accommodation. If you need an accommodation to utilize gym and locker room facilities, please contact the Recreation and Wellness Business Office or University Disability Services.
Where/how do I sign up for intramurals?
All registration is online through IMLeagues. Create an account with your ISU email, then join or create a team.
Do I need to have a team before signing up?
No. You can register as a free agent in IMLeagues, and teams looking for players can add you.
What sports are available this semester?
Sports vary each term. Current leagues and one-night events are listed on the [Intramurals page] and in IMLeagues.
Who is allowed to play intramurals?
All current ISU students. Faculty, staff, and eligible community members may also join, depending on the sport.
Do I have to have a gym membership to play intramurals?
Yes, you must have access to the Student Recreation Center. Students have access included in tuition; others may need a membership or day pass.
Can I pay for my friend’s or sibling’s fee?
Yes, but all players must still create their own profile on IMLeagues and be on the team roster.
What about one-night events? Do I need to pre-register?
No. Just show up at the posted time and location—no registration required.
Where can I find more information about intramural events?
Details are posted on the [Intramurals page], on IMLeagues, and in the Campus Recreation office.
If I can’t play, can I get a refund?
Refunds are generally not available once registration is complete.
Can players sub for other teams?
No. All participants must be listed on the official IMLeagues roster before the roster close date.
Do students living on campus pay the intramural fee?
Yes, all students must pay the IMLeagues registration fee, regardless of where they live.
Can my family or spouse watch my games?
Yes, spectators are welcome. Normal building policies apply (check-in, age restrictions, etc.).
If I have a complaint, who do I talk to?
Start with an intramural supervisor on duty. For formal issues, contact the Intramural Director, Shelby Williams.
How do I add people onto my roster?
- The person must have an IMLeagues profile.
- Additions must be made before the roster close date. After that, no new players may be added.
What happens if I get ejected, fight, or receive a red card?
You must meet with Shelby Williams during office hours. You may not play again until cleared. Fighting results in suspension for the remainder of the semester.
How do I pay for my team to register?
Fees must be paid before your first game, either online or in the Campus Recreation Business Office (REC 360).
How do I know when my team plays?
Schedules, results, and playoff brackets are always posted on IMLeagues. It’s your responsibility to check updates and notify staff if your team cannot attend.
Where can I go for intramural questions?
- 9:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.: Shelby Williams’ office (upstairs in Reed Gym)
- 2:00–5:00 p.m.: Supervisor office near the North Gym (by the Climbing Wall)
After hours: use IMLeagues messaging to contact supervisors.
What is a Sport Club?
A student-run organization for sports and recreational activities, especially those not offered at the varsity level.
Why should I join a Sport Club?
To stay active, build leadership skills, compete against other universities, and be part of a team community.
Who can join a Sport Club?
Fee-paying ISU students. Rarely, associate members (non-students) may be approved if they bring special benefit to the club.
How do I join a Sport Club?
Contact the club president listed in the [Sport Club Directory] or reach out to the Sport Club Director. All participants must complete a waiver.
Can I start a new club?
Yes. Review the checklist and forms, then work with the Sport Club Director to complete the process. Clubs must be recognized by a National Governing Body for competition and safety.

Who counts as “family”?
Only a member’s own tax-dependent children (through age 19). Spouses, siblings, grandparents, and friends are not included.
Do day-pass users get family hours?
No. Guests using a day pass or 10-punch pass are not members. Their children must purchase the appropriate child day pass.
What if I want to bring my child outside of family hours?
Children under 16 must pay the child day pass rate and children 16+ must pay the adult day pass rate.
Can I bring a baby?
Yes. Babies under age 2 may enter with breastfeeding mothers at any time, but must remain in a carrier when not feeding or being changed.
Are there supervision or age restrictions?
Yes. All minors must:
- Stay with and be directly supervised by the member at all times.
- Be at least 16 years old to enter group fitness classes, spin room, cardio, weight, relaxation lounge, or adjacent seating/walkway areas.
