Skills Training

The PsyD program is designed to help students develop a number of professional competencies:

Clinical Skills

In addition to coursework in assessment and intervention, students will have the opportunity to complete supervised assessment-focused and treatment-focused clinical training. This training will begin at the end of the first year and through the second year in our in-house training clinic located on the Meridian campus. In the third and fourth years, students will be placed with clinical agencies in the area to receive more advanced supervised experiences. In the fourth year, students will apply to a predoctoral internship through the APPIC system. This full year internship occurs during the final year of the program.

Research Consumer Skills

Students will take courses in basic research and data analysis methods. In addition, during the third and fourth year, students will work with a program mentor to complete a doctoral project. This project should represent a novel written contribution to the field. Example options include a scholarly review of a research area with a focus on clinical application, a case study, a quantitative/qualitative/mixed-methods research project, a systematic review or meta-analysis, and a program evaluation or consultation project.
