Curriculum and Clinical Training

Program Training Model

ISU's Clinical Psychology PsyD program was designed with American Psychological Association (APA) accreditation in mind. Although new doctoral programs cannot be fully accredited by APA until the first cohort of students complete the program, we plan to seek intent and contingency accreditation statuses leading up until that time.

ISU's Clinical Psychology PsyD program was designed to prepare students to become doctoral level psychologists equipped to address the mental health needs throughout the state of Idaho and beyond. The PsyD program is a practice focused program that uses a scholar-practitioner model (Foley & McNeil, 2015) to help students develop strong clinical competencies and be proficient consumers of research. In addition, the program includes a focus on Integrated Behavioral Health and training in tele-health delivery of services.

Curriculum

The program includes 104 credit hours, designed to be completed in 5 years (which includes a 1 year pre-doctoral internship placement). These credits include 34 credits toward a MA degree which students will earn while making progress toward their PsyD.

Classes include foundational classes in psychology, classes in ethics and research methods, and specialty classes in assessment and intervention skills. The following is an example five year plan:
