FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE
Failure to participate or cancellation will not result in a refund for students, staff, or affiliates. All trip registrations are non-refundable. If a student fails to show or cancels their free trip, their ISU account will be charged the full student price of the trip. If a student cancels their free trip or fails to show for their free trip a second time, the student will no longer be eligible for any free trips.

Open Kayak
Thursdays, January 15-March 5, 2026
6-8 PM at Reed Gym Swimming Pool
Open Kayak sessions are open to beginner or experienced kayakers. Kayaks, paddles, spray skirts, and instruction from OAC staff are provided. Open Kayak is free to anyone with a full-time fee-paying student ID or ISU Campus Recreation Membership. Day passes can be purchased for $10.

Snowshoe at City of Rocks National Reserve

Departure Time: 8:00 AM
Explore the City of Rocks National Reserve on snowshoes. The City of Rocks is known for its granite spires and beautiful landscape. Although many people visit in the warmer months, snowshoeing gives you the opportunity to experience the reserve in a unique way.
Trip fees cover transportation, snowshoe rental, and park entrance fees.

Full Moon Cross Country Ski or Snowshoe
January 30, 2026
Departure Time: 6:30 PM
Cross-country ski or snowshoe with us during a full moon at the Mink Creek Nordic Center. The Mink Creek Nordic Center is located 30 minutes outside of Pocatello.
You are responsible for your headlamp. Trip fees cover transportation, cross country ski or snowshoe rental, and admission to the Mink Creek Nordic Center.

Ice Climbing at Garden Creek Gap

Departure Time: 10:00 AM
Do you enjoy rock climbing and are interested in what ice climbing has to offer? Join us at Garden Creek Gap to climb moderate waterfall ice with an alpine feel. The condition of the ice at Garden Creek Gap is heavily dependent on snow and weather. To participate, you must be able to put on a harness, tie in using a follow through figure 8, and demonstrate proper belay techniques. Participants must provide their own harness, belay device, helmet, and appropriate footwear. Appropriate footwear for ice climbing is warm,
waterproof, and durable winter boots. Ski boots with walk mode are also acceptable footwear. Rentals are available at the OAC. Trip fees include transportation, ropes, and instruction.

Craters of the Moon Cross-Country Ski

Departure Time: 8:00 AM
Put on your skis and come glide with us through Craters of the Moon National Preserve. Enjoy the crystalline lava rock structures frozen in time as we ski along the trails.
Trip fees cover transportation, cross country ski rental, and park entrance fees.

Harriman State Park Cross-Country Ski Trip
February 21, 2026
Departure Time: 8:00 AM
Visitors to Harriman State Park during the winter season can enjoy numerous opportunities for outdoor recreation, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, photography, and wildlife viewing. The park offers 24 miles of groomed trails suitable for an introduction to cross country skiing.
Trip fees cover transportation, cross country ski rental, and park entrance fees.

Yurt Overnight Trip
March 6-7, 2026
Departure Time: 12:00 PM
Spend a night in an ISU OAC yurt. Two miles of travel on snowshoes brings you to a vista outside the yurt that overlooks the Marsh Valley and the Portneuf and Bannock Mountain ranges.
You are responsible for your sleeping bag/pad, and backpack. Rentals are available at the OAC. Trip fees cover transportation, yurt rental, and snowshoe rental.

Teddy Bear Cove Climbing

Departure Time: 10:00 am
The Outdoor Adventure Center will travel to Teddy Bear Cove climbing area for a climbing adventure. Teddy Bear Cove is a south facing basalt cliff making it warm enough to climb even during the colder months. All abilities are welcome!
You are responsible for your own food. Trip fees cover transportation, climbing harness, climbing shoes, and climbing helmet.

Moab, Utah Spring Break Trip
March 21-27, 2026
Departure Time: 7:00 AM
Spend spring break in the desert of Moab, Utah, hiking, biking, climbing, and exploring Canyonlands National Park. Moab has great shopping, restaurants and activities to participate in. The group will be staying at a camp park in town that has hot showers, bathrooms, and a pool.
You are responsible for your own camping gear, food, biking gear, and climbing gear. Rentals and purchasing options are available at the OAC. Trip fees cover transportation, campground fees, and park entrance fees.

Open Climb
Thursdays April 9 - October 15, 2026
Ross Park Climbing Area 5:00 PM
This regular climbing session on Thursday evenings at 5 pm is open to those who have previous climbing experience. Top ropes are set up by the OAC staff at the Ross Park climbing area. We provide the ropes and equipment to ISU students with valid Bengal card free of charge. Community members and ISU faculty/staff can purchase a season pass for $30 or a day pass for $3 onsite.

Grand Teton Bike Tour
April 11, 2026
Departure time: 8:00 AM
Bicycle in Grand Teton National Park before the roads open to motor vehicles. We will be road biking from Bradley Taggart Trailhead along the Teton Park Road. The relatively flat, but often windy ride is an out-and-back, so you can turn around at any point to head back to the van. We will wrap up the day with a visit to Jackson.
You are responsible for your own food and bike. Rentals are available at the OAC. Trip fees cover transportation and park entrance fees.

Snake River Canyon Scenic Tour
April 18, 2026
Departure Time: 8:00 AM
Come explore the Snake River Canyon near Twin Falls. See sites like Shoshone Falls, Twin Falls, the Perrine Bridge, and more! This trip will include light hiking and sight seeing.
You are responsible for your own food. Trip fees cover transportation.

Rock Climbing and Camping at City of Rocks
April 24-25, 2006
Departure Time: 8:00 AM
Come climb and camp with us at City of Rocks National Reserve. City of Rocks has single pitch granite spires that are ideal for top-roping and sport climbing. All abilities are welcome!
You are responsible for your own camping gear, food, climbing shoes, and optional hot springs outing. Rentals are available at the OAC. Trip fees cover transportation, campground, and park entrance fees.

Yellowstone Tour
May 1-2, 2026
Departure Time: 8:00 AM
Visit America’s first national park on this tour of Yellowstone’s famous sights. We will see Old Faithful, the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, as well as many other geysers, hot pools, and wildlife. We will camp in the park for one night.
You are responsible for your own camping gear and food. Rentals are available at the OAC. Trip fee covers transportation, campground, and park entrance fees.

Whitewater Trip on the Owyhee River
May 11-17, 2026
Departure Time: 8:00 AM
The Lower Owyhee from the Rome boat launch to Birch Creek takeout is a rare wilderness experience that few get to encounter. The Owyhee Canyon offers spectacular cliffs, whitewater rapids, and camping. At this time of year, water levels are usually low, and inflatable kayaks can be used to navigate down the river corridor. If water levels permit, we will use rafts to travel down the river.
You are responsible for your own food and camping equipment. Rentals and purchasing options are available at the OAC. Trip fees cover transportation, permits, and boat rental.
