Interim Dean Announced for College of Business

April 21, 2025

Dr. Alex Bolinger, Idaho Central Credit Union Endowed Professor of Management in the College of Business, has been appointed as interim dean for the Idaho State University College of Business.

“I am very grateful to be appointed to this role,” said Dr. Bolinger. “ISU’s College of Business has an extraordinary culture that has been cultivated and sustained over six decades to serve the educational needs of our region. In fact, I have experienced this culture first-hand for parts of three decades, dating back to my days as an undergraduate Management major in the late 1990s. I want to thank Dr. Shane Hunt for his tremendous leadership, which has left a transformative legacy for our college. I also wish to extend special thanks to the faculty, staff, students, and friends of the College of Business for their support in my transition into this role. I am looking forward to learning much and doing everything that I can to continue to support the great work that is accomplished every day by our College of Business community.”

Dr. Bolinger earned his PhD in Management at the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah. His research and teaching interests focus on group dynamics and decision-making, leadership, entrepreneurship, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. An advocate of interactive, experiential approaches to teaching and learning, Dr. Bolinger has served as an associate editor of the Journal of Management Education and on the review boards of journals such as the Academy of Management Learning and Education and the Academy of Management Discoveries. Students in his classes have learned about teamwork, leadership, and business strategy through collaboratively writing seven books, devising student-led fundraisers that have generated tens of thousands of dollars for the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Idaho, and bringing over 20 trophies to ISU in a decade of appearances at the International Collegiate Business Strategy Competition. Among other assignments during his tenure at ISU, Dr. Bolinger has served as an Interim Director of the ISU Honors Program.

"Dr. Alex Bolinger represents the best of what it means to be a professor and leader in higher education,” said College of Business Dean and Michael C. Ruettgers Professor of Marketing Dr. Shane Hunt. Alex is an exceptional scholar, award-winning teacher and a supportive colleague that has made me and everyone who works with him better. I am very excited that Dr. Bollinger will serve as Interim Dean and lead the ISU College of Business towards a very bright future ahead."

“I want to express my sincere appreciation to Dr. Bolinger for his willingness to step into this role while we conduct a search for a permanent replacement for Dr. Hunt,” said Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Adam Bradford. “I’m confident, based on my conversations with him and with the faculty and staff in the College of Business, that he will do an excellent job as the interim dean.”
