Native Nuclear Founder Scott Lathrop to Speak at ISU on “Nuclear Energy & Indigenous Futures” as Part of Native American Heritage Month

Idaho State University will host Scott Lathrop, founder and CEO of Native Nuclear, for a keynote presentation and expert panel discussion on Tuesday, November 5, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Bengal Theater.

All ISU students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to attend this engaging session exploring the intersection of nuclear energy, Indigenous leadership, and sustainable futures.

Lathrop is an elder of the yak titʸu titʸu yak tiłhini (ytt) Tribe and a national leader in the field of nuclear energy education and advocacy. Through Native Nuclear, a nonprofit organization led by Native professionals working in the nuclear sector, Lathrop’s mission is to build understanding and partnerships between Tribal communities, the nuclear power industry, and government agencies. His work highlights the environmental and economic opportunities of nuclear innovation while honoring Indigenous values and community priorities.

Following his presentation, Lathrop will join a panel of experts from Idaho State University’s Department of Nuclear Engineering to discuss current initiatives in nuclear energy, workforce development, and Tribal collaboration.

Lathrop’s visit will include campus and community engagement in both Pocatello and Fort Hall, highlighting ISU’s ongoing commitment to strengthening partnerships with Tribal Nations and advancing Indigenous representation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
