New Faculty Development Workshops
Navigating a new academic environment can be challenging, but you don't have to do it alone. Join us for a comprehensive workshop series designed specifically for new faculty members. This program will equip you with the essential knowledge and practical skills you need to thrive in your first years and build a foundation for a successful career.
Each workshop will be held every other Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., typically in the Center for Learning & Instructional Excellence and will cover key topics essential to your professional journey:
- Shared Governance and University Structure: Understand how decisions are made, who the key players are, and how you can participate in the university's governance.
- Tenure and Promotion: Demystify the process. Learn about the criteria, timelines, and strategies for building a strong case for your tenure and promotion portfolio.
- Best Teaching Practices: Enhance your pedagogical skills with strategies for engaging students, managing classrooms, and creating effective learning environments.
- Evaluations: Learn the ins and outs of performance evaluations—what to expect, how to prepare, and how to use feedback to grow professionally.
- Student Services: Discover the wide range of support services available to your students and learn how to connect them with the resources they need to succeed.
- Balancing Teaching and Research: Get practical advice on how to effectively manage your time and responsibilities between the classroom and your research agenda.
This series is more than just an orientation; it's a dedicated space for you to connect with colleagues, ask questions, and gain the confidence to excel in your new role. A Zoom link will be available for off-campus sites.
