Join Us for Our Faculty Workshop:
Lecture Title: Durable Skills
Presenter: Dr. Ed Kammerer
Date & Time: Thursday, October 30 | 12 - 1pm
Location: Rend 129, Center for Learning and Instructional Excellence
Employers increasingly want applicants who can demonstrate durable skills, like critical thinking and problem-solving. Similarly, the Idaho State Board of Education wants to see our students graduate with durable skills to help them on the job market and encourage lifelong learning. Faculty play an essential role in helping our students develop these skills. Many durable skills are central to the classes we teach, particularly in the liberal arts and our general education program. But durable skills are broader, encompassing fortitude, a growth mindset, creativity, metacognition, and an ability to collaborate with others. These are also often part of our teaching, even if we do not necessarily highlight all of this to our students. This workshop is designed to help faculty intentionally incorporate a wide range of durable skills into their courses and to develop meaningful ways of assessing student success in achieving these skills. Please bring a hard copy of a syllabus from one (or more) of your courses with you for this workshop. Email the Center for Learning for the Zoom link if you can't attend in person!
