Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between internal and external reporting?
A: ISU produces reports for many different purposes. External reporting is intended for audiences outside the university, such as government agencies (e.g., our official IPEDS submissions) or research groups interested in learning more about ISU. Internal reporting, on the other hand, supports ISU’s day-to-day operations—like tracking daily enrollment numbers so the university can better plan and respond to student needs.
Q: Do you report personal or identifying data externally?
A: ISU strictly follows FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) regulations and, in most cases, goes beyond FERPA requirements to safeguard individuals and their information. Any external reporting is done in a way that protects privacy and ensures no personally identifiable information is disclosed.

Q: If I can’t find a report, how can I request one?
A: You can submit a request through our dedicated Data Request Form. Once submitted, the form is sent directly to the IR team. The form includes guiding questions to help us understand your needs and also allows us to check whether a similar report already exists before creating something new.
