We are excited to offer a variety of summer activities from camps at the Museum to field experiences! Many of our camps will run multiple times. Price includes all supplies, materials, and transportation. Lunch will not be provided by the Museum. 

Space is limited and registration is required, no same day registration.

Dinosaur Dig Volunteer Training

Join the IMNH as we venture to Wyoming and assist teams working to dig up dinosaur mummies and bone beds. This is a great way to get hands-on experience prospecting for dinosaur fossils as well as working in an active dinosaur quarry. This camp is for teens and adults to receive training in paleontology field techniques in order to become active volunteers in the field with the IMNH in the future. No experience is necessary. Cost includes transportation, instruction, and all meals on-site. Participants must supply their own camping gear and are responsible for meals during travel to/from the site.

Come learn and make with us! Your little ones will get a chance to explore the museum and create a unique, handmade art project every day inspired by our shared natural history here at the Idaho Museum of Natural History. Monday will include a tour of the museum and a simple, littles-safe embroidery project. Tuesday kids will explore the world of watercolors. Wednesday kids will have a chance to make felt animals. Thursday will involve making a real plant press and creating fun felt plants to test in it! Friday will be another painting day, this time painting a cute fun model of one of Idaho's extinct animals, just like our museum professionals do. Time to move, explore, and snacks are included in this half-day adventure. A minimum of 4 attendees is required to run this camp, and we are limited to 8 total participants so be sure to sign up!

Like our Art of Science for Littles, this camp dives into how art and science intersect here at the Idaho Museum of Natural History. This camp, for older kids, is a week-long, full-day camp to give campers more of a chance to get into the art they are creating, as well as more time to explore the gallery for inspiration. Monday will include a tour of the museum followed by an IMNH-original embroidery project. On Tuesday participants will explore the world of watercolors and draw inspiration from the displays in the gallery. On Wednesday, kids will have a chance to make felt stuffed animals based on our gallery. Thursday will involve making a real plant press and creating fun felt plants to test in it! Friday will be another painting day, this time painting a cute fun model of one of Idaho's extinct animals, just like our museum professionals do. Time to move, explore, lunch and snacks are included in this all-day adventure. A minimum of 4 attendees is required to run this camp, and we are limited to 8 total participants so be sure to sign up!

Idaho Junior Paleontologist

Is your child wild about dinosaurs, but perhaps too young for our more strenuous field camps? This week-long camp is a chance for them to explore the many aspects of paleontology here in Idaho, and come home every day with science-filled tales of new adventures! Campers will get to explore the museum gallery and collections, as well as help unearth Idaho's dinosaurs from rocks we've collected here at the museum. They will also learn how to sort microfossils and identify many types of Ice Age animal bones, remove the rock from fossils they have found, dive into 3D scanning and printing, and even go into the field for a trip to visit some dinosaur deposits in eastern Idaho. At the end of the camp, your learner will leave with new knowledge and appreciation of our shared natural history, a 3D printed replica of a fossil from Idaho that they helped restore for display, and a certificate saying they are officially a Junior Paleontologist! Lunch, snacks, and transportation from the museum to the dinosaur site on our field day are all included in this price. A minimum of 3 attendees is required, and our camp is capped at 8 participants due to space constraints, so don't get left behind!

Do you like D&D? Fantasy video games? Do you cosplay, or like to go all-out for Halloween? Then this two-day camp is perfect for you! On Day 1 you'll get a tour of the Idaho Museum of Natural History, our 3D scanning and printing lab, and our collections. After this, we'll introduce you to our 3D model library, where you'll start designing, sculpting, and creating your new fantastic prop. Will you make a sabertooth dagger? A Helicoprion hammer? A Gorgosaurus gauntlet? The sky is the limit! On the second day, your 3D printed model will be ready for you; you'll learn how to clean models after they are printed, prime, paint, and weather them to create the perfect item to show off at your next con or holiday party!

Minimum number of 2 participants required, and we are capped at 4 for this due to space requirements.

Spaces are exceptionally limited due to the size of the lab.

A rare site has been discovered in Idaho that offers a glimpse into what plants surrounded Idaho's dinosaurs during the time of Oryctodromeus. Help us open up the quarry and dig some of these rare fossils that will help us better understand this lost world. Includes all tools, training, and transportation from Pocatello.
