Idaho State University encourages reporting of alleged hazing and violations of its hazing policy. Allegations of hazing or retaliation for reporting hazing or cooperating in a hazing-related investigation made against individuals or student organizations will be sent to the Dean of Students Office for processing through the Student Code of Conduct and associated hearing procedures.

Any student, parent, faculty, staff, or general community member can report hazing.  The form is available to anyone with internet access, and we welcome any and all information you may have. If there is an immediate concern for safety, please contact 911 or ISU Public Safety at 208-282-2515. Otherwise, submit your concern through our Hazing Form and we will review your report during regular business hours.

If you would rather talk to someone in person before submitting a report, please reach out to the Dean of Students Office at deanofstudents@isu.edu, 208-282-2794, or come by our office in Room #204 of the Hypostyle, 921 South 8th Ave., Pocatello, ID 83209. We would be happy to meet with you in person to discuss your situation and get a better understanding of the information you may have.

Hazing Reporting Frequently Asked Questions

We encourage all campus employees to report any alleged hazing incidents through proper campus channels. Campus Security Authority (CSA)s are mandated to report crimes under the Clery Act. We urge all staff and faculty to learn more about their obligations in this capacity.

The report will initially be reviewed by a staff member from the Dean of Students Office.  Depending on the details of the information shared, our overall knowledge about the individual or situation, and our assessment of severity and risk involved, the following actions may be taken:

  1. We may keep the report as "informational", with no further action taken, but kept in case additional reports or information comes at a later time.
  2. We may reach out to the reporter to obtain additional information to help us determine appropriate next steps.
  3. We may reach out to other offices on campus to see if they are familiar with or have other essential information about the individual or situation.
  4. We may reach out directly to any individual(s) harmed in this incident to offer them support and assistance.
  5. We may refer the report to the campus CARE Team for assessment and response.

Yes, reports can be submitted anonymously, however, this can limit our ability to respond adequately to the reported information. Although we strive to maintain anonymity, we cannot guarantee confidentiality. If we believe someone is at risk for whatever reason, we may be legally obligated to respond to the information provided to us. If you are worried about retaliation for submitting a report, please contact the Dean of Students Office and/or put that information in the submitted report. If timing and urgency of the incident allows, we are happy to connect with the reporter prior to reaching out to any of the individuals involved (you can select this option in the report).

We know it takes a tremendous amount of courage to report these types of situations, and we appreciate your willingness to do the right thing. We understand that the people/organization you may include in the report are friends whom you would like to maintain relationships with. First and foremost, our concern is with the safety of our community. Cooperation with the Dean of Students Office is greatly appreciated and we work with students to find the right balance of responsibility and accountability, with compassion and understanding. Our office has the discretion to not charge students with policy violations in cases where they have done the “right thing” and assisted us in caring for other students and resolving concerning issues. Please reach out to someone in our office for more information if you are in this situation at 208-282-2794 or deanofstudents@isu.edu.

Campus Hazing Transparency Report

Idaho State University will maintain and publicly report findings of hazing violations in compliance with the Stop Campus Hazing Act. Our first report will be available on December 23, 2025 (which will include data from July 1, 2025 through December 23, 2025). After that point, the report will be updated biannually, and will be available for review for at least five years. Please note that the Transparency Report and Annual Campus Safety Report have different criteria for their reported data. Therefore, numbers in the two reports may read differently.

The report will include:

  • The name of the organization involved
  • A general description of the violation that resulted in a “responsible” finding including:
    • If the violation involved abuse or illegal use of alcohol or drugs
    • The findings of the conduct officer/board
    • Sanctions placed on the organization
  • The dates on which:
    • The incident was alleged to have occurred
    • The investigation into the incident was initiated
    • The investigation was completed with a finding that a hazing violation occurred.
    • The notice was provided to the student organization that the incident resulted in a “responsible” finding for violation of the hazing policy
