ISU Faculty Senate Statement of Support for International Members of our Campus Community

May 2025

Whereas, we, the Faculty Senate of Idaho State University (ISU), value international students, staff, and faculty as crucial members of our university community;

Whereas, we, the Senate, have grave concerns about the arbitrary and unjust revocation of international student and scholar visas and permanent resident green cards as well as the abduction, detention and deportation of such individuals without due process;

Whereas, we, the Senate, are concerned that some members of our campus community are vulnerable to federal requests for identifiable information;

Therefore, be it resolved that we, the Senate, call upon the Provost to preserve and defend due process rights, as specified in the 5th and 14th Amendments of the United States Constitution, of international students, staff, and faculty at Idaho State University. Be it finally resolved that we, the Senate, call upon the Provost to provide guidance to the campus community and to let us know in a timely manner if ISU receives a demand from the federal government for student, faculty or staff identifying information or physical location that is motivated by their visa or immigration status or on-campus activities. We, the Senate, also call on the Provost to collaborate with ISU’s International Programs Office to centralize institutional support and to provide practical guidance to ISU’s international community.

The Faculty Senate represents the University Faculty in the initiation, consideration, recommendation, and implementation of policy within the purpose and powers of the University Faculty.

The Faculty Senate considers matters referred to it by the University Faculty, Senators, the Executive Vice President/Provost for Academic Affairs, the University President, or the President's representative. It recommends to the EVP/Provost changes in academic and other policies that affect the Faculty, and through the President recommends policy changes to the State Board of Education.
