EHSS staff assist students and employees in achieving their goals by delivering safety assistance, technical expertise, and compliance guidance with a customer-focused mindset. EHSS (Environmental Health, Safety and Sustainability) Technician, Operations (1595)

Job Description

Join the ISU Environmental Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHSS) team as an EHSS Technician. Reporting to the Safety Programs Manager, the EHSS Technician supports environmental health and safety programs.  

  • Support the development, implementation, review and evaluation of environmental health, safety and sustainability programs, plans and procedures
  • Draft professional reports with findings and corrective actions
  • Utilize continuous improvement principles in all EHSS responsibilities
  • Cultivate a positive culture of safety by role modeling safe behavior and a demonstrated commitment to safety
  • Respond to off-hours emergencies
  • Support operations in Environmental Health, Safety and Sustainability by assisting with special projects, recordkeeping, training and marketing
  • Assist with hazardous waste removals
  • Conduct inspections
  • Assist with instrument calibration
  • Conduct regular assessments of worksite environments to identify potential safety hazards

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (In lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree, a minimum six years combined education, training, and experience may be considered)
  • Successful candidates must be able to wear an air-purifying respirator, lift 50 pounds, transport drums weighing 450 pounds using a drum hand truck and have a valid driver's license.
  • Position requires after-hours emergency responses.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in environmental health and safety
  • Experience in a college or university setting

Preferred Qualifications

This position will remain open until it is filled; however, priority consideration will be given to applications received on or before July 2, 2025. Salary will be between $50,000 - $55,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience. All offers of employment are conditional pending the successful completion of a background investigation, provided by HireRight.
