Computers & Projectors
We will use the student and instructor computers many times over the course of the semester. It is important to familiarize yourself with some of the issues that may occur during lab.
General | Vernier | Wireless Peripherals

- Monitor will not recognize the hard-drive:
- Toggle the surge protector power strip switch to ‘OFF’, wait 5 seconds.
- Toggle the switch to ‘Reset’.
- Press the monitor power button on the bottom right edge of the monitor to make sure it is turned off, not glowing.
- Press the hard-drive power button to turn it on, make sure it is glowing, wait 5 seconds.
- Press the monitor power button to turn it on, make sure it is glowing.
- Wait 10 seconds for the display port to connect the monitor to the hard-drive.
- Projector does not display:
- Make sure the projector and computer are connected. Find the cable and dongle that connects the two. Jiggle them a bit; sometimes they look connected but a few of the pins are not in contact. OR
- Press WinP
- Then select 'Duplicate'.
- Unable to find the correct software, using the username and password given to you by the lab coordinator re-install:
- Monitor will not recognize the hard-drive:

- Computer not recognizing Vernier Logger Pro or Vernier sensors:
- Unplug the Vernier Go!Links from the USB Hub.
- Toggle the surge protector power strip switch to ‘OFF’, wait 5 seconds.
- Toggle the switch to ‘Reset’.

- Press the hard-drive power button to turn it on, make sure it is glowing, wait 5 seconds.
- Press the monitor power button to turn it on, make sure it is glowing.
- Wait 10 seconds for the display port to connect the monitor to the hard-drive.
- Plug in the Vernier Go!Links from the USB Hub.
- Logger Pro/Sensor not taking readings:
- close (not just minimize) the Logger Pro software,
- unplug Go!Link from the computer,
- unplug the sensor from Go!Link,
- open the Logger Pro cmbl file needed for the exercise.
- plugin Go!Link to the computer,
- plug in the sensor to the Go!Link,
- Vernier sensor readings seem inaccurate: please read the Vernier section for the correct sensor type.
- Computer not recognizing Vernier Logger Pro or Vernier sensors:

- Computer stations:
- One EagleTec wireless keyboard and mouse with required USB receiver for connectivity per station.
- Tower, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and USB receiver are labeled for each station: 1-9 (Poc) or 1-6 (IF)
- The USB receiver required for connectivity must stay plugged into the USB port of the correct station. It is labeled and connected to the USB port.
- At the beginning of each lab check that the correct mouse/keyboard is with the correct computer.
- No connectivity on keyboard or mouse: check the batteries and change if discharged
- No keyboard connectivity:
- unplug USB receiver,
- reinsert USB receiver,
- press and hold Esc + K on the keyboard for 2 seconds.
- No mouse connectivity:
- unplug USB receiver,
- reinsert USB receiver,
- press and hold the middle and right mouse buttons for 3 seconds.
